The best indicator of high quality workmanship and pride is what people do with the parts of a home that you cannot see when it is complete. After watching our home and others around us being built, it is obvious that the quality and pride of K2 is far above the rest of the industry. Their after sales service is fantastic too. We only had really minor niggles but they addressed them promptly and completely. K2 are not the low cost provider but they are worth every penny. We could not be happier with our decision to have Kevin, Peter, Rick, Jay and the rest of their crew and subs build our home.
If you want a first class builder, then K2 Developments is the go-to builder for you. K2 built our new home a year ago. When you take possession of a new home it is an exciting time and I thought writing a review immediately might not be as meaningful as writing a review after living in the new home for a year. One year later and we are just as excited and pleased with the K2 build as we were on possession day. Our home is over 5000 sf, with three levels, built on a steep sloping hillside. After one year there are 'no' visible settling marks or issues anywhere. There are no 'nail pops' or 'floor creaks' - the house is the same as it was on possession day. Any item that needed attention after possession, such as a cupboard door needing adjustment after appliances were later installed, K2 addressed the issue immediately and have been excellent following-up on anything and everything we have brought to their attention. Since we lived adjacent to the new K2 build, we were able to witness on a daily basis the building of our new home. K2 have a first class working crew - not only well skilled and professional, but every member of their team exhibited a wonderful work ethic - there were no extended breaks, late arrivals, early finishes, etc. We were kept informed of all stages of the build. K2 diligently followed all building codes, used appropriate professionals throughout the build (e.g. geotechnical engineers, etc.), and was extremely diligent in working with the local CVRD authority to ensure permits, procedures, and standards were all adhered to. The result - all building inspections were easily passed with no issues raised. We were involved throughout the build and enjoyed being able to use their construction software programme that provided a detailed lay-out and time-line of stages of the build, budget and itemised costs, and contractual agreements to ensure there were no misunderstandings between builder and client. The programme provided a detailed breakdown of costs and if we decided to change any item - e.g. different faucets, additional cupboards, etc. - the costs of these changes were immediately factored into the budget, with the 'new' total cost immediately calculated and presented for the client's view. Hence, there were no 'surprises' or 'hidden costs'. In summary, our building experience with K2 has been excellent. We have no hesitancy in recommending K2 Developments - as stated at the outset of this review, they are a first class builder.
K2 Developments recently finished building our forever home. From the very beginning, Peter and his team were involved in every aspect of our house build with fantastic advice, vision and unsurpassed service. Every detail was covered promptly, giving us plenty of time to prepare for each stage of the build. We interviewed several builders and ultimately settled on K2 due to their responsive communication to us, as well as their reputation for integrity and reliability. We were not disappointed. Seeing the house come to life was very exciting. The K2 crew all seem to love their jobs and have an easy camaraderie that has been built over years. The crew are friendly, easy going, humor filled people that are simply a great group to work with. Of equal importance they are extremely skilled craftsmen. They carefully analyze situations and use their extensive experience and community of resources to create solutions and support decision making along the way. The sub trades that they work with share the same customer satisfaction goals and commitment to quality. It spoke volumes to us to know these people have collaborated with K2 for years, sometimes decades, by choice. We felt that our wants and needs were important to them all. Everyone took whatever time was needed (a lot), to explain things, reassure and collaborate. Jared and Rick, as team leads, were extremely innovative in creating solutions and unique touches. They also had a firm grip on the schedule for all parties involved. Jay was always willing to do anything for us and to make us smile. Peter went to great lengths to manage expectations and was respectful of our budget. He tried to hold us accountable to it with our choices and provided ideas on cost savings when unexpected expenses were incurred and pricing of products or services inflated. Communication with the team was timely and thorough. They walked us through the process, keeping us apprised of what was happening and what was required of us, or others, via text, phone and through their team communication/management tool. Thanks to each and every member of the K2 extended team that made the often exhausting and stressful job of building, almost always fun. We have lived in our new house for almost five months now. The house has withstood significant storms and the energy of an active dog friendly family extremely well. We have very few minor tweaks to do and everywhere we look it feels like home. Thank you.
Working with K2 for our first home build was an incredibly wise decision. The team, consisting of Peter, Jared, Rick, and Jay, demonstrated an impressive level of knowledge and experience. Their expertise allowed them to suggest minor modifications that had a significant impact on the final outcome, all while staying within our budget. One of the standout aspects of K2 is their collaboration with local tradespeople, who were all fantastic to work with. This ensured a smooth and efficient process throughout the construction. K2's use of interactive software to manage communication, budgeting, estimates, updates, and files was truly remarkable. The user-friendly interface provided reassurance and made it easy to stay informed about the progress. The regular updates and photos of the construction progress were particularly enjoyable. Despite logistical challenges preventing us from visiting the site regularly, Peter made sure we were consistently updated and arranged site meetings accordingly. This level of attention to detail and communication was highly appreciated. Most impressively, our house was delivered on time and under budget. K2 built our dream home. Peter came and met us at the lot we were considering and gave us rock solid advice with no strings attached. He advised us to interview other contractors but we were so impressed we decided to hire him. Talk about a good decision... K2 built the last home we will ever live in. From Day 1 the attention to detail and willingness to work with us and manage our project was simply incredible. In a time where building costs went out of control due to Covid, K2 brought us home on time and on budget. Friends told us it would be a test of our relationship, but it was simple all the way without any stress at all. We visited the site virtually every day and saw the quality of products that went into our home. Constant communication and willingness to listen to our ideas and needs was so important to us as this was our only shot at building our forever home. In fact the crew not only listened, but came up with suggestions and improvements to our plan which made it so much better. We cannot believe the quality of our home and are still amazed by it. People every day comment on it and ask who built it. Peter, Jared, Rick, Jay, Rueben, Jon and Ben.. you were simply amazing!!! If you do get K2 to build for you, get used to cars slowing down as they go by... it will happen. Our experience with K2 Developments was amazing! K2 built our west coast modern dream home near Maple Bay in 2021-22 and produced a stunningly beautiful dwelling in an idyllic setting. The owners, the site supervisors, the individual crew members, and the sub trades were friendly, personable and customer oriented. Everyone's attention to detail and owner satisfaction was steadfast during the entire project. K2's transparent business model, which included convenient, interactive software and weekly progress meetings, kept us informed and involved. We thank our lucky stars that we got K2 as our builder!
K2 Developments, as a team, went above and beyond to ensure a professional and positive home renovation ‘experience’!! The owner, the head carpenters, the site manager and all of the sub trades worked integrally and efficiently together to produce a building that we can all be proud of! The two things that stand out: (1) their attention to detail regarding the finances, the construction and finishing details, and (2) the respect that was visible between all of the people who were present on the site. I have been involved in construction for over 40 years and as an owner of a General Contracting company I tend to have a high level of expectation for good management and quality workmanship. K2 not only met but exceeded all our expectations from the planning to the build and importantly, the post-occupancy service. When my wife and I first decided to build our dream home on Lake Cowichan a few years ago, we spent some time watching other homes being built and taking note of who the builder was. We also asked locals and subtrades about who they would recommend for a home builder. Inevitably the answer was K2. We met with Peter to discuss his approach and processes and were impressed with his references. He even took us to one of his project sites so that we could see the product and team in action. When issues occurred during the build, Peter would always be prepared with a solution. Their team of subtrades were all of high quality and met the schedule. K2’s record for delivering the construction “trifecta”: Cost, Quality, Schedule was proven again on our project. Selecting a builder for our first home was an intimidating process, and we are so glad we chose K2. We were really impressed with Peter, Jared, Rick and the entire K2 team. They are genuine people, who are passionate about their quality of work, and their clients' experience. K2 was a great company to work with on the construction of our first home. Peter and the K2 team were responsive from the initial site visit through to after key hand over day. They took the time to go through any issues that may have arose and used their extensive knowledge to offer solutions. The use of their project platform allows you to see the breakdown of every aspect of the project and see exactly where you are investing your money. This keeps the budgeting process fully transparent and was beneficial while working with K2 to stay on budget. My wife and I are very proud of the house Peter, Jarod, Jay, Rick and all the crew of K2 Developments built for us. This is the 2nd home K2 has built for us and there is a reason for that, they are simply the best at what they do, they take building a home to a whole new level, not only do they take you through step by step with the project but they are so prepared they rarely encounter issues as the process is so well laid out. The crew is amazing and the level of craftsmanship is off the chart. In my experience of building there is only one builder who can deliver and it's K2, period.
We are very pleased to recommend K2 for your building project. Before signing on with K2, we interviewed 5 different contractors. We selected K2 for 2 main reasons: (1) they spent a great deal of time with us before we signed, asking very detailed questions and offering specific examples and prices of products and finishes about our expectations for our house before they prepared a quote for us. This increased our confidence that we could stay within our budget. (2) As others have mentioned, K2 uses a really excellent, secure, on-line program to outline and document stages of the project. It was also the prime method of communication between us and K2. If we logged on and asked a question or made a request, we consistently received very prompt responses. The program also included budgeting info, progress reports, photos and more. As promised, they were extremely responsive to any and all questions and requests for changes -- and since we lived right beside the build from excavation to completion, we had a lot of them. Both the process and the end result confirmed for us that we made the right choice. Our house was delivered on time and on budget, and we love the finished product. Peter and Jared, who own the company, and Rick, our go-to guy after the framing phase was completed were all great to work with -- no question, concern or change request seemed to faze them, even if it meant absorbing some costs, and all requests were dealt with very quickly and efficiently. Given it was our first new build, our experience was very positive -- we found the K2 team trustworthy, reliant, skilled and very easy to work with.
My wife and I were absolutely thrilled with the job that K2 did in the construction of our lakefront home and cannot recommend them highly enough!From the moment of our initial phone interview, we were impressed with the evident depth of expertise, honesty and integrity of the K2 team. Once the project was started we were dealing with Peter Greenway who acted as the overall project manager for our house construction project. He is, in our opinion, quite simply fantastic. There were some times during the project when difficulties arose and Peter was always right on top of things no matter how much additional effort or extra work was required on his part. Some of the minor difficulties we experienced were related to design issues that only became evident because of Peter's diligent work. He was always very helpful and positive when things like this arose and, together with Kevin, was instrumental in working with the design company to resolve the problems. K2 uses this extremely user friendly web-based construction software where all the details of the project can be found. It is an extremely convenient and powerful system that allows the K2 team to communicate with the client, post updates on the construction progress, and use as a platform for documenting the many decisions that need to be made throughout the course of the project. This was especially useful for us since our new home was being built on Lake Cowichan and we live in Vancouver. Our interaction with the other principal members of the K2 team were just as positive as with Kevin and Peter. Jared, who was the site supervisor during the construction phase of our house, has years of experience building houses and was extremely impressive during our site visits. His breadth of knowledge on house construction was quite evident and every question we had was met with detailed and expert responses. Rick Porter was the site supervisor during the finishing phase of the home and was also quite excellent. Another one of the strengths of K2 is that over the years they have formed excellent relationships with all the key sub-trades and you, as the client, benefit from this. Our interactions with all the sub-trades was excellent and their work was first-rate. I know from talking with Peter if somebody K2 have contracted with doesn't do a good job or doesn't stand behind their work, K2 will not use them for the next project. So a lot of the stress you might otherwise feel relying on multiple parties to build your home, is completely taken away because K2 manage it so well. Our house was completed on time and within budget. All unexpected costs were the result of choices my wife and I made for additional things not within the original scope of the project. After the house was complete, there was one small thing that we wanted changed (that we had not spoken about before) - we weren't sure how K2 was going to respond. We made one comment to Peter and his immediate response was "Don't worry, we'll fix it at our cost." After we had already moved in, Rick himself came to fix the issue and did a beautiful job. Our lakefront home is now fully complete, the quality of the construction is simply first rate, and we are thrilled with it. People who we don't know come along our street and complement us on it. If you choose to hire K2 to build your home, you will not be disappointed.
At our first meeting in March 2017, prior to my signing the contract with K2, Kevin asked me what my key expectation was from the firm I would ultimately choose to build my house. After pondering this for a moment I responded “promises kept”. Kevin and Peter replied they had discussed that very criteria earlier in the day. I am very pleased to say K2 lived up to this expectation. Not only did they keep their promises, they added value in numerous ways, in suggestions on a better way to do things, how to save me money without compromising quality, again a highly valuable trait that unfortunately many companies today do not offer. But K2 does! A large project like this comes with numerous decision points, and during the process it would be naïve to think issues will not arise. It’s how they are handled that sets first class companies apart from mediocre ones. In the end, very few issues did come up (maybe 2 or 3) and they were handled professionally, expediently and to my total satisfaction. The quality of construction, the total customer service experience and length of time to build my house from ground breaking to occupancy (just under 6 months) all exceeded my expectations. From my experience with K2 I would highly recommend them to anyone considering building a custom home. They are a first class organization. After buying our 4 acre parcel near Duncan in 2008 we met with Kevin and decided we wanted K2 to build our retirement home. Fast forward to 2020, K2 helped us every step of the way, from permitting, excavation, to completion, all during the trying times of 2020-21. We are extremely thankful to the K2 management and crew as well as their skilled team of tradesmen, consultants and suppliers. K2’s attention to detail and workmanship is second to none, as are their organizational and communication skills. We actually enjoyed the entire building process, learned plenty and shared some laughs along the way. When we first decided to build in North Cowichan, we met with multiple contractors and were thoroughly impressed with K2. Peter’s communication from start to finish was unrivaled. After moving to the Valley from Victoria, it became very apparent to us how highly regarded K2 is within this community. Our project was delayed due to permitting issues with the Agricultural Land Commission but K2 was able to work with our ever changing timeline and deliver our carriage house in a very timely manner (and right on budget!). We appreciated the professionalism, knowledge, and guidance from both Peter and Rick. We genuinely enjoyed getting to know them and felt they alleviated a lot of our stress surrounding building a home. The quality of work that Jay (as well as the rest of the crews) delivers is spectacular. We also valued the user-friendly software that they use to communicate with and track expenses and selections. The entire crew is meticulous, noticing very minor flaws that would have gone undetected by us and fixing them immediately. They even repaired some minor damage that was done by our moving company. Recently completed our home on Vancouver Island after relocating from Calgary. Took longer than planned to exit Calgary, and when the opportunity finally came up we actually waited to get a slot with K2 for our build and are so glad we did. The whole team at K2 are professional to deal with and take great pride in the quality of their work. Peter was bang on budget and he and Rick delivered our house a week early! Building a custom home involves a lot of decisions and Peter is a top notch project manager whom uses their online project tracker to provide clear and consistent communication. Would highly recommend using K2, we have even had neighbors whom just finished their own builds comment on how smooth our process went and the quality of our home!
This is how house construction should always be. Kevin and his fantastic trades and subs were consistently amazing. On time (in fact a week early) and under budget, yet nothing but top quality from top to bottom. We did our homework and learned that K2 was the best in the Valley, and well worth waiting for. That reputation is well deserved. We are so glad that we did wait a little to have K2 build our dream home. K2 was everything we hoped for. Extremely professional, never taking short cuts, an eye on the budget all the way, and unbelievable scheduling and project management. Our site manager had our back the whole way. Everywhere we went to choose things like fixtures, finishing materials, doors etc the suppliers always asked "Who is your builder?" and when we said K2, they consistently said "You have the best". I cannot recommend K2 enough. After our recently completed build, Janet and I couldn't be happier. Since our initial meeting with our plans at Kevin's office right up until the final sign off everything went off without a hitch and was meticulously planned down to the finest detail. Jared, our foreman, is an amazing and totally accommodating guy. His attention to detail is unquestionable. All the trades that K2 use are phenomenal and we could not have been happier with their workmanship.
